The Christmas party guests were largely suppliers and customers and a comment made in passing conversation solidified MacInnes’ new company plans.
“One of my suppliers said to me ‘hey, I’ve been supplying this law firm with computers and they’ve been charging for their copiers but not for clicking on print and I’m pretty sure they print more’ and that was where the idea came from.”
From here MacInnes put in money and time and hired a developer, Paul Heemeryck, Print Audit’s Chief Technology Officer. The pair, and MacInnes’ partner who has since been bought out, hired staff and began operations out of MacInnes’ basement. When it came to funding, Print Audit was bootstrapped from the beginning with MacInnes’ friends and family members acting as early shareholders.
