3esi Frees Oil and Gas Companies from Spreadsheets with Integrated Solution
When three people in a small Varsity office decide to solve business problems, big things can happen. Wayne Sim (CEO), Salvador Clave (COO), and Sandy Moreland (VP Corporate Services) of 3esi had worked together at the remarkably successful Hyprotech, a U of C spinoff that went on to be the tenth largest software company in Canada by revenue, and number one in profit.
“We enjoyed working together,” says Moreland, “so we thought let’s look at our skill sets and see how we can solve a new business problem.”

And so, 3esi was established as a software company for the oil and gas upstream business.
Enabling Efficient Resource Management
3esi’s research showed that a majority of people in the upstream oil and gas industry spent a lot of time in multiple systems and disconnected spreadsheets, planning, budgeting, and tracking the well lifecycle, a highly inefficient way to manage a portfolio of resources.

esi.Manage™, launched in May 2007, helps upstream oil and gas companies manage the well lifecycle. It is built on a robust multi-tier platform with a plug-in-friendly rich client, with web services enabled on the server. Why does this matter? In a word, integration; in a 3esi world, systems are no longer siloed. |
esi.Execute™ is the newest addition to the 3esi family of integrated software products. It sets out a five-year plan regarding ready to drill wells. Naturally it links back in to esi.Manage™ so well-lifecycle and planning are seamless.
“We had one client whose planning process had taken their team three weeks of very intense effort,” says Sim. “We put their data into our solution and they were able to generate the reports in around two hours.”
