We’ve Been Busy
CeBIT 2005, March 10-16, Hannover, Germany
This latest effort to showcase Alberta’s growing Wireless & Telecom industry to global markets has been an overwhelming success. This collaboration between Alberta Economic Development, Calgary Economic Development and Calgary Technologies Inc. engaged 6 local technology exporters and traveled to the world’s largest ICT tradeshow, CeBIT 2005. Exhibitors included Murandi Communications, RxWave, Release Planner, Embedded Systems/Phone Labs, ANT/Dynastream, and Smart Technologies.
Displaying under the "Wireless City" banner, these companies presented a very powerful image of Alberta's technology exporters. Our technology was innovative, competitive, and definitely world-class. Embedded Systems/Phone Labs even appeared on the daily CeBIT television program with their Dock 'n Talk product - congratulations to Len Bleile and the rest of the Embedded Systems Products team on attracting worldwide attention to your excellent product.

Working within the Canada Pavilion in Hall 13 (the main Telecommunications Hall) unquestionably boosted the profile of the stand even further. The booth was located along the main corridor leading to the train station, and the walk-by traffic was outstanding.
We will be giving a synopsis of the show at the "Wireless City Global Tradeshow Strategy Session" (see item below).
Come on out and we will tell you all about this global visibility for the Wireless and Telecom industry in Alberta.
Call for Demonstration Projects
The project year is well underway, but opportunities exist for additional projects in 2005.
Would you like to participate in a Wireless City project?
Do you have a suggestion for a wireless project you would like to see us develop?
Would you like to bring a Calgary-based company to our attention?
If you think that your product would be a candidate for a Wireless City project, we would like to hear from you.
Wireless City Global Tradeshow Session
May 4th @ 4:00 at the Alastair Ross Technology Centre
Building on the success of the CeBIT 2004 and CeBIT 2005 collaborative tradeshow successes, the purpose of this exploratory meeting is to poll Marketing executives in Alberta's wireless industry about a comprehensive program to ensure that the industry is present and visible at a portfolio of tradeshows every year over a three-year period.
We feel this will continue to build on the already-growing global recognition for our wireless cluster, and also provide consistent opportunities for our companies to be exposed around the world. We're thinking about doing 5 tradeshows per year, CeBIT, 3GSM, an Asian show (probably ITU), CTIA and CWTA or some other suitable Canadian show.
The purpose of this gathering is to review the collaborative booth experience so far, and to get your feedback on the expanded program. You should attend if you are the marketing executive for your company, and any of the following is true:
- You or your company have exhibited at these shows in the past, either on your own or as part of a pavilion
- You think you might be interested in the future
- You need more information on the pros and cons of exhibiting as part of an industry pavilion
- You have relevant experience to lend to the discussion
We will meet at the Alastair Ross Technology Centre, 3553 31 Street NW at 4:00 to 5:00, and then release you to participate in the WiTec Networking event to follow:
