What is Wireless City?
Wireless City is a not-for-profit marketing services program for Alberta’s wireless technology sector.
What is the mandate of Wireless City?
Wireless City’s mandate is to help Alberta’s various wireless technology companies with their marketing, both for home province promotion and international market development. Our goal is to help qualifying companies (our clients) expand their sales both at home and abroad.
What is Wireless City’s relation to “Hotspots”?
Wireless City has been involved in the promotion of Hotspot (Wi-Fi) use throughout Alberta, encouraging a culture of use of wireless technology. As a service to the public, we keep a comprehensive list of Alberta Hotspots on our website. This is one of several programs run by Wireless City.
How is Wireless City Funded?
Wireless City is funded by both industry and government at federal and provincial levels. All Wireless City projects are executed with in-kind time and equipment from participating companies, and conducted on a not-for-profit, cost recovery basis.
What do you mean by “Cost Recovery”?
As a not-for-profit entity, Wireless City only requires client companies to pay for the hard costs associated with participation in various programs. For example, a participating company would be required to pay for their share of booth space when attending a tradeshow as part of the Wireless City pavilion.
What kinds of programs does Wireless City Run?
• Case Studies – Wireless City projects create powerful, credible market references for Alberta wireless companies.
• Alberta Wireless Solutions Catalog – Promoting Alberta’s wireless technology throughout the province and the world.
• Tradeshows Pavilions – Wireless City promotes Canada’s wireless industry with professionally organized wireless solutions pavilions at technology expositions around the world.
• Home Market Development – Wireless City is creating a culture of wireless technology use in Alberta.
How can I get involved in Wireless City projects?
Wireless City client companies are:
• Based in Alberta (our Tradeshow Pavilions allow wireless technology companies from across Canada).
• Have an export-ready wireless product (embedded or stand alone hardware, or software), or a recently developed technology in need of a demonstration or first customer.
• Generally are small or medium-sized enterprises.
If you are a qualifying company and wish to participate in a Wireless City project, please Contact Us.
What is WiTec and how is it related to Wireless City?
WiTec Alberta is an industry association focused on supporting the Wireless & Telecom industry in the Province of Alberta. WiTec provides:
• Networking and mentorship opportunities
• Collaborating with industry and government to strengthen and grow the technology sector
In collaboration with WiTec, Wireless City showcases Alberta wireless technologies, and assists in creating and providing market access.
What is Calgary Technologies Inc. and how is it related to Wireless City?
Calgary Technologies Inc. (CTI) is a not-for-profit agency in the business of economic development, focused exclusively on Calgary’s advanced technology sector. Wireless City is managed by CTI and housed in the Calgary Technologies building.
What are Wireless City “Tradeshow Pavilions”?
Tradeshows are an exceptionally valuable way for companies to reach buyers/distributors of their products, but at the same time they are difficult to execute well. Wireless City helps take a lot of the potential pitfalls out of tradeshow attendance for our client companies by implementing a “show up and sell” turnkey tradeshow solution.
Further, by having a number of participating wireless technology companies from across Canada in our tradeshow pavilions, Wireless City is able to secure a much larger space in prime exhibit location. For more information and for a listing of upcoming tradeshows, visit the Tradeshow Pavilions page.
What are Wireless City “Case Studies”?
Wireless City works with Alberta wireless technology companies to expand their market exposure through creating both projects and partnership opportunities for new concepts and innovative applications.
These projects create powerful, credible market references for Alberta wireless companies. The projects engage multi-disciplinary teams to showcase emerging wireless applications. This is an excellent tool for new technologies that require a “first customer” for demonstration purposes.

What is the “2007 Guide to Alberta Wireless Solutions” and how can I get in it?
The 2007 Guide to Alberta Wireless Solutions (5mb .pdf) is now available online. Printed versions will be ready in January, 2007. 70,000 copies of the guide will be distributed both locally and internationally. Request printed copies or learn how you can get into the Guide to Wireless Solutions.
What do you mean by “Home Market Development”?
Home Market Promotion is targeted at developing a culture of technology use in Alberta. Wireless City will assist companies in identifying contacts to explore new market opportunities, or in creating demonstration projects that utilize a lead customer to aid in new product development.
